Description

From “Subject to Change: Urban Landscape and the Architecture of Place”

From our earliest efforts to communicate who we are by drawing our “home”, the square with the triangle on top, home is an archetypal symbol. These house portraits explore home as an organic structure that has a natural lifespan. The architecture of “home” – the house itself – is a vessel for shared human experience and memories. Our homes are a reflection of who we are, they are also indicators of class, family life, how we want others to see us.

This “cottage” house, c. 1880’s was torn down shortly after this painting was completed. Two newly constructed single family homes now share this lot on Wolcott and Foster Ave, Chicago.
